THE WESTERN RAILWAYS. [By Telegraph.]

(from our own correspondent.) Kivehton, August lath. The following is a copy of the petition regarding the completion of the Western Bailways aboui to be forwarded to the Assembly : — " To the Hon. the Speaker and members of the Legislature in Parliament assembled. This, the petition of the undersigned members of the County Council of Wallace, the Town Council of Riveruon, the Western District Farmers' Club, and the settlers of Riverton and the adjacent districts generally, would most respectfully urge upon your honourable House the pressing necessity of the completion of the Western Railways, espscially that portion between Riverton and Otautau. We would humbly solicit your attention to the following facts connected therewith : That the rate of labour at present is very low ; that the prosecution of those works would give employment to the unemployed, of whom there are very many in the district ; that further damage to railway material now lying on the spot will be avoided ; that the line, which is wholly formed, could be completed, and in working order, this present season, to run in wool, grain, and other produce ; that the completion of the work is urgently required, and would be an incalculable benefit to the district. The petitioners humbly trust the House will entertain the petition.
