NEW CHUM, Dunedin :— The population of New Zealand is 399,221. Imports, £1,645,464; exports, £1,201,759. The value of the total trade of New Zealand is now about twelve millions sterling per annum, or something like £36 per annum per head of the entire population, infants and Chinese included. D. N., West Taieri. — Provision is not made in the new Impounding Act, just introduced by , Mr Reid, for publishing the number, particulars, brands or marks of cattle impounded, otherwise than by posting the same on the gate or other conspicuous part of the pound.
