' ' , BOAKD. Mr Bastings moved—" That, with the view 'of tbe Board arriving at a proper decision in dealing with the runs now falling in, it is deArabia that the Board make an inspection of the -same." Mr BuiTEEWOKTH had Very great pleasure in seconding the motion. _ Mr Bastings said, with all due deference, he did not think some members of the Board knew' much about the country. He flattered himself that no man knew more of Otago than he did, and he thought some members of the Boatd did notknow so much. By personally inspecting the' runs, they could judge for themselves, and would be able to do their duty better than by sitting in tbe Board Boom and taking the opinion of anybody, whoever he might ba. Mr Strode hoped they would be able to make the inspection in summer. The Chief Commissioner said the inspection would have to be made in winter, because a great many of them fell in in the course of a few months. Strangely enough, he was , mentionin« this very matter to Mrßeid thai morniug.* He was saying, that he. would nimself like to visit some of the country that he was not personally acquainted with. v Ec had been over most of the Province, but he had not seen some portions for a considerable length of time. , Mr, Bastings remarked that the country altered a great deaL , Mx. Clark, presumed that, if they made -this inspection, their expenses would be paid. The Chief Commissioner "said they would apply officially to the Government for their expenses, , , Mr Bastings thought there 'should be no difficulty. Even if they did not get their expenses, he did not. think it would break them. Ho got no expenses now for attending the Board, and he found he, got on quite as well without them. ' ' r Mr Sthode said that was not much to be wondtred-at, seeing the smallng^ of the amount allowed. If a member attended every meeting during the. year he would "only get LSO. '-' 1 The Chief' CoionssibtfEß. said, there were two more runs which he expected would have come before them, this week. They were Fulton's and Boyd's — the first named being in Lee Stream district, and the second in the Waipori district. - The motion was agreed to, and 'the Board then adjourned.
