AN ENGLISH CRICKETER'S OPINION.

[By Telegraph. |

Wellington, April 16th. Southerton, of the All-England Eleven, ia a letter to a private friend at Marton, gives his opinion of the best men to represent New Zealand in intercolonial cricket contests. He says at such places as Taranaki, Nelson, and Greymouth, he could rot find anything to recommend except Morse, at Greymouth, if hard up for a left handed bowler. At Inver cargill there is only Reade good at both bowlirg and batting. He thinks Cross and Anson the only ones at Wellington who showed they were likely to hold up their wickets. The best men at Auckland are Robinson, Tracy, ,and Buekland. The first can bat and bowl ; the second is not a verystylish bat, but his resolution is likely at any time to pull him through ; and the third is a fair bowler,' but no bat. Dunedin has good bats in Dixon, NichoUs, Millington, Fulton, and Spring, the latter being the best wicket keeper he saw in the Colony. Dixon, MUlington, and Everest are also good bowlers. He has no doubt Chriatchurch must

form the nucleus of any team, as there can be ' found the best all-round cricket, Corfe, Leech, and Stevens being first-class bats, with, plenty of others, and good bowlers too, like Frith, Sweet, and Ashby ; a good fieldsman and the best longstop in Alpe. He considers them the club of the Colony ; they only want a better, wicket to play on.
