From Messrs Maclean Bros., with reference to their lease of a section on the Town Belt.— Referred to tne Reserves Committee. From Mr Crawshaw, contractor for the Water Works, pointing out that, as he had been put to mucn extra expense in storing the surplus plant, it wa& unfair to ask him to deliver it at Mussel Bay at his own cost. He was prepared to go over the plant with any person the Council may appoint. He urged an early settlement of his claim upon the Corporation. — After a short discussion, it was resolved — " That, in accordance with the terms of the contract, the surplus plant should be delivered at Mussel Bay, aud the other matters in Mr Crawshaw's letter be referred to the Water Works Commitee." From Captain Goldie, acknowledging the receipt of the letter from the Council, re rifle practice at Mussel Bay. He regretted that the names of the offending Volunteers had not been mentioned.— Ordered to be received. INSURANCE DONATIONS. Fair pro mises had been accorded them. MISCELLANEOUS. The Town Clerk was instructed to appoint certain hours at which he would daily attend at the Town Hall on Corporation business. The disgraceful state of the Purakanui and Blueskin Road near the Town Belt was strongly commented upon by Mr Asher. Neither the Wsiikougiti County Council nor the Blueskin Board took the slightest interest in it, notwithstanding that the Government had stipulated, when it made the road over to that part of the district, that iL should be kept in good repair. He moved— 41 That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Waikouaiti County Council and the Blueskin Beard, intimating that unless prompt action be taken to repair the road, the Port Chalmers Council would petition the Governor to take the road over in terms of the Counties Act." Seconded by Mr Reid, and carried. It was resolved, in reference to the removal of timber by unauthorised persons, ths-t the Reserves Committee report upon the state of the Town Belt. Mr M'Kinlay moved, and Mr M'Gregor seconded, the motion— "That the thanks of the Council be conveyed to Captain Sinclair, of the Dunedin Fire Brigade, for the prompt manner in which the Brigade responded to the appeal for help made from the Port during the fire of the previous Saturday evening," A discussion upon the appointment of a Fire Inspector closed the business of the meeting.
