R., Dned'Ti,-wishes to know the origin of the expression "Hookey Walker. 1' Mr A. Beverly, Dunedin, propounds the following mechanical problemf or solution:—A spherical ball and a cylinder of the same magnitude start together, rolling from the top of an inclined plane, 30 feet long, the top beipg , two feet higher than the bottom. Supposing there is no resistance, what velocity does each ' acquire at the bottom ? And how far is the cylinder behind, when the ball reaches the bottom? Note—Gid,vity (=33.2) is partly . spent in producing rotation.
