TRINITY WESLEYAN CHURCH.

An organ recital by Mr A. J. Towsey and a musical festival by the choir took place at Trinity Wesleyan Church last Monday, when an unusual treat was afforded. There was a large attendance. . 3Tor some time past the choir under the superintendence of the organist of Trinity Church (Mr G. E. West) had been preparing a sacred musical programme for the purpose of giving a festival and augmenting the Choir and Organ Fund, The Eev. A. B. Fitchett delivered an address on " The Cultivation of Music," and said it was a disgrace to a city like Dunedin that we do' not have frequent opportunities of hearing oratorios and other works of the great masters,, Handel, Haydn, &c. Mr Towsey's contributions to the programme consisted of the following beautiful selections :— Elvey's Festal March, Carter's Commemoration March, the Andante from Mozart's No. 6 Symphony, and " Worthy is the Lamb," and Amen Chorus (Messiah). The gentleman who sang "The Border Land" acquitted himself very well indeed, as did also the gentleman who gave " Consider the Lilies," which was excellently rendered. Of the concerted pieces Novello's Christmas Anthem, "Adeste Fideles," and Clark's chorus "The Lord's Prayer," were the sweetest gems. We have not space to notice the items in detail. Suffice it to say that Mr Towsey's artistic performances on the organ were highly appreqiated, and that there was ' very little ; for the most captious critic to find fault with in - the vocal selections. ■
