Wakgakot, March Bth. A special meeting of the Harbour board was held yesterday afternoon to consider a letter from the HarDour Master, stating that " the sea was breaking through the south spit, a mile from the Heads, and a channel can be seen about a chain wide, with a depth of sft. at high water at spring tide, xhe force of ihp burf having made through it a, long sand spit out in the river of about five chains, which has gauged the river to sil* up below the last mentioned spot, and set the current in another direction. Mr Roes, Resident Engineer, stated the cost of stopping the channel w >uld be £1735. Tbe Board resolvod to apply to the Government for the best engineering advice to report on the means to be adopted to prevent further injury accruing to the river, arising from its divergence from its ordinary channel.
