Tlie gloamin' sweet was creeptn'on, And day aa' night were meetin', i When granny, sittin' in her chair, Heard words o' quiet greetin', ' ' She laid her knitten down awhile, An' frae her cosy corner Cried oot in tones o' anxious love Tae still the youthfu' mourner. ' ' "O ! come tae me, mv winsome bairn. O ! come an' tell me fairly What is't that dims your bonnie een, An' maks ye greet sac sairly. " Jist come, an' sit doon at my feet, An' tell your puir auld granny — For weel ye ken, I'd dae my best Tae help my am wee Annie." " O ! granny dear, I long hae lo'ed Young Tarn, the honest miller, But folks a' say he'd only wed A lass wi' plenty siller." " An' wha said that tae ye/my dear ?
