The Green Island Lodge of the Independent Order Odd Fellows was opened at the Baptist Chapel, Green Inland, on Friday evening, and 22 candidates admitted in accordance with ancient form. The instituting officers from Dunedin were— G.M. Bro. Braithwaite, D.G.M. Bro. Ruosell, P.G.M. Bro. Miohie, G.T. Bro. Alexander, P.O. Bro; Aldridge, assisted by N.G.s Bros. Sydney Haigh and M'Kenzie, Secretary Bro. Matheson, and other Brothers from Kaikorai. The iol« lowing are the officers elected and installed for the first term : — Bro. Davidson, N.G.; Bro. Eagerty, V.G-. ; Bro. Jenkins, Treasurer ; Bro. Kennedy, Secretary. The newly installed N.G-. and Y.G. appointed their various subordinate officers. The meetings will be held weakly until the end of this year, commencing with Monday, October 16th. The Grand Master and other officer* from town paid a high compliment to the new members for the aid they had given towards adding another branch to the Order, and specially thanked the Committee (Bros. Davidson, Eagerty, and Jenkins) for the genuine interest , they had taken in the matter, which had led to 'such successful results as they had now witnessed. The members of the Lodge invited the visiting brethren to a banquet, prepared by Bro. Jenkins, of the Rose, Thistle, and Shamrock Hotel. The room was choicely decorated with mottcs of the Order in evergreens and flowers, and the viands, &c, were of the best quality. Bro. Davidson took the chair, and Bro. Eagerty the vice-chair, both supported by town members. Several toasts were received in a hearty manner, amonget which were " Success to the 1.0.0. F.," proposed by Bro. Davidson, and responded to by Bro. Braithwaite, who hi turn proposed "Prosperity to the Green Island Lodge," responded to by Bro. Eagerty, who then proposed " The Visiting Brethren," responded to by Bro. Aldridge., Several songs were sung, and the company spent a 1 sociable evening.
