THE SAILORS' HOME.
The adjourned meeting of the Sailors' Home Committee was held in the Institution on the 21st inst, Present— Messrs H. Houghton (in the chair), Keith Ramsay, A. Meruer, E. Prosser, Captains Thomson and Logan. The Chairman explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of considering the Sub-committee's report in re building sites for- the Home and the various offers the Committee had received.
A letter was read from Mr Hislop, (Gillies, Street, and Hislop), offering section 31, block 1., Hanover street, Dunedin. The offer was declined.
It was also resolved to decline the offer of section 23, block XXVII. Messrs H. Law and Co.'s offer to lease portion of a section in Hope street, having a frontage of 7G feet, with a depth of 122 feet, for a 21 years' lease, at an annual rental of 20s per foot, was reserved for further consideration at a full meeting. The Secretary was instructed to request Messrs^ H. Law and Co. to allow their offer to remain open for a shott time. The following motion was carried unanimously :— " That the Sub-committee be requested to bring up a report on the prospects of obtaining funds for the proposed building, the Sub-coramittee to consist of Messrs Houghton, Thomson, Logan, Russell, and Ramsay,"
