The Stage.
Mr and Mrs Bates are still the great gnns at the Queen's. The termination of their engagement is not at present certain, but it is understood they will perform next in Wellington, where they are great favourites, having on their last visit to that place played to a good business for fi\ c months. In less than two weeks from this time Mr Charles Wheatleigh will arrive from Christchurch, for the purpose of placing the "Shaughraun," " Our American Cousin, " " Monte Christo," and other good things on the Dnnedin boards. Mechanists, carpenters, scene painters, and property-men .are all busily engaged at the Queen's in preparing for the " Shaughraun." Mr Wheatleigh is doing well with Mr Hoskins at the Royal, and Davies, the ventriloquist, is at the Oddfellows' Hall, Christchurch. " Black Sheep " is the last piece in which the Darrells appeared in Wellington. "The stranger" and Shakespeare's "King John" were to follow— the latter with a Spelling Bee, for the benefit of Mrs Darrell. Airec's Combination and Barlow's Circus appear to be the only c >mpanies at Auckland.
