The following was the state of H.M.'a Gaol, Dunedin, for the week ending 23rd October, 1875 :_

Winter the telegraph engineer has duplicated the duplex system, and introduced a quadrnplex mode by which four messages can be sent at once. The plan has been tried on 80 miles of the Madras line " with triumphant success."
