Wellington, September lGth. The inquiry into the collision between the Young Dfck and Janefc Spiers, in Cook Strait, concluded to-day, being the third day's hearing. It appeared that the night was fine, and the lighthouses distinctly observable, when the collision occurred. It ia supposed that the Young Dick: had no lamps burning, aud that the Janet Spiers did not keep such a good look out as ought to have been done. The certificate of the mate of tho Young Dick was suspended for three months, and the Young Dick ordered to to bear all costs for damage, ko.

September l?th. A proclamation in tfie Government Gn/ette notifies that all copper coin of the United Kingdom in circulation in the Colony shall be decreed and called in on the 31st January, 1876.

The Auckland footballers are on board the Hawea, on their way here from .Nelson. They arrived at New Plymouth late yesterday, and consequently did nob play. They did not play at Nelson.

September ISlh. The football match, Auckland v. WelliugW, began at 2 30 this afternoon, Wellington winning by 15 points. The score was as follows : — Wellington : 8 rises, equal to 4 points j 3 tries, equal to 6 ; 1 goal, equal to 6 j total, 16 points. Auckland: 2 rises, equal to 1 point. Campbell, of Wellington, kicked three times for a try at the goal, and only succeeded once. The Auckland team appeared to be completely overmatched, both in weight and play. The Wellington drop-kioking was remarkably good. The Auckland team were entertained at dinner this evening, and leave early to-morrow morning, for the South, per Hawea. September 20th. A very serious explosion of gas occurred this morning in the strong-room of Messrs Izard fand Bell's office. On one side the wall, 18in. thick, was blown out, and the other side and roof were badly cracked. It appears a clerk (named Salmon) in the office, having occasion to visit tho strong-room, smelt gas, and left the door open for half an hour to allow it to escape. He then returned, struck a match, and was about to light the burner, when the whole of the escaped gas in the strong-room ignited. September 2 1st. The members of the Opposition gave Sir (t. Grey a dinner last night. About 25 sat down. Mr Fitzherbert was in the chair, supported on the right by Sir G. Grey, and on the left by Mr Macandrew. Mr Rolleston was in the vice-chair. On replying to the toast to his health, Sir Geo. Grey said all that he and the party he was working with were doing, was for what they believed to be the permanent good of eke Colony. " Prosperity to the Colony," coupled with the name of Mr George Hunter, of Wellington, was the next toast. Mr Hunter replied, aud after a pleasant social evening, the company separated about 1 1 . 30.

At about lulf-paat six this evening a very sharp shock of earthquake was felt. There were three or four distinct vibrations, the direction being north and south. It was unaccompanied by any noise.

Auckland, September 16fch. The schooner Tawera has been wrecked. The following report of the occurence is to hand. The Maories on Tuesday fouud a large schooner off Sandy Beach, about twelve or lourteon mile 3 north of the nurth head of the Kaipara Harbour. She was dismasted, her decks were clean swept. A boat was lashed on deck, but no signs of the crew were visible on board or on shure. They had no doubt she was the Tawera, which had left Foxton some time previously iv ballast, for Kaipara, intending to load at the Aratapu mill for Lyttelton. The l'awera was owned by F. Archard, who a short time past sold her to Mr Bailey delivery to take place after the present charten The sale is vitiated by the accident. The Tawera was a schooner of 55 tons, and insured for £SOO in tho New Zealand Office. Captain Church was in command when she left FuxEun. With regard to the crew being missing;, it is possible they uuglit have efheted their escape, though they were not seen by the Natives who brought the news to Aratapu. The wife of Captain Church is wailing at the Pilot Station, Kaipara, in hopea of her husband's return. '

Father Boibeaux'o funeral to-day was very largely attended.

September 17th. A box, containing Captain Church's certificate and other papers, was washed ashore from the wreck of the Tawera. There is little doubt that all hands are lost. The names of the crew who shipped at Lyttelton last trip are— Capfcam Church, Peter Miller, Charles Anderson, and Charles Roberts (cook). Captain Church leaves a wife and three children The boat was found lashed on the deck. The wreck was swept with, the waves, and the masts were gone. No bodies are washed ashore.

A butcher was fined £20 to-day for slaughtering on his premises iv Queen street.

September 18fch. The wife of Captain Church, of the schooner Tawera, has returned fromKaipara. No hopes are now entertained of any of the survivors of the wreck. No bodies have beeu washed ashore.

September 20th. Thomas Marks, an immigrant by the ship Dover Castle, was drowned iv crossing a creek at Huia.

September 22nd. Captain Johnston, master oi the Magellan Cloud, fell down stairs, <*nd sustained injuries from which he is not expected to recover.

It is proposed to erect a new theatre for Auckland at the comer of Victoria aud Queen streets.

Chri3Tchcbc!h, September 18th. Edwards the walker won the match to-day against Green of Dunedin. Edwards had to walks 70 yards while Green ran 100 yards. . Edwards won. easily. He then attempted to walk 7 miles in one hour, but failed. He did the 7 miles in GO minutes and 6^ seconds. Considering the small size of the course and its bad condition, .this is a splendid performance. On a good ground he would have done the distance within the hour.

September 20th. The Auckland football team called here to-day en route for Danedin. The match with Canterbury will probably be pUyed on Friday next.

By the b.b. Otago, Mr Roskruge has imported a very fine Clydesdale entire, named Black Champion, which waa reported in the Australian telegrams aome time ago to have cost £920. By the same vessel Mr Bluett has imported a pure-bred cow, imported in the ship Rodney to Melbourne from London.

The steamer Kennedy, with the assistance of the steam tug, was got afloat this afternoon, off the South Spit. No damage. Patea, September 16th.
