Waste Lands Boards.

The regular weekly meeting of th« Waste Lands Board took place on Wednesday. There were present: The Chief Commissioner, Mr J. T. Thomson (in the chair), and Messrs Bastings, Butterworth, Clark, and Strode.

TO GO TO AUCTION.

It was resolved that certain sections in the Beaumont and Tuapeka districts, applications for which had been approved, should nevertheless go to auction, the Board at the time of giving approval not being aware that there was more than one application for each of the sections.

APPLICATION FOR REFUND.

An application was made for refund of portion of purchase money of sections at Clyde. It was argued that the auctioneer should have made the upset price of sections (said to be back one*) £3 each, and not £5 each, and that at the time of the sale a protest was made. It appeared, however, that at least one suction brought £6. — Application refused. ROCK AND PILLAR. — APPLICATION FOR LEASE.

_ The postponed application by Mr W. Mardling for a lease of section 2G, block VIL, Rock and Pillar district, was considered. It was resolved that a lease should issue for seven years under clause 91 of the Act of 1872, on the condition that Mr Mardling kept a boat ready for the public, and in a proper state of efficiency. Rent of ground, 38 acres, to be LlO per annum.

BLUESKIN TOWN SECTIONS. It was resolved that the upset price of sections in Bluesldn town should be raised from L 3 to L 5 ; that the remaiuing unsold sections be advertised for sale at an early date, and that the Survey Department be asked what sections are unaffected by road or railway works.

AKATOBE. — MR NUTSFORD's APPLICATION.

The application of Mr Thomas N utsford to purchase five chains of land on both sides of his property on block L, Akatore district, was approved, subject to survey, and subject to tne necessary roads being reserved through the same.

VILLAGE RESERVE, SOUTH WAKATIP.

An application, under the lGlst clause, for five acres in village reserve, Half-way Bay, in block L, South Wakatip, was referred to the District Land Officer to report. WATTAHDNA DISTRICT. — BOUNDARY OF SECTION*

In the matter of the boundary of section 99, application for the settlement of which was made, the Board adjourned the case for a week, in order that a party interested might have an opportunity of having his side heard.

DISPOSAL OF LEASEHOLD.

It was resolved that the leasehold of certain lands at Waitahuna and Table Hill be disposed of by auction as land of special value.

RUNS 459 AND 46L

It was contended for Messrs Cotter Bros, (whom Messrs Gillies and Street represented) that the piece of land called run 401, and now advertised for sale by auction, was part of run 459. The Board, after considering the matter, resolved that Messrs Cotter Bros, should get the country on paying the usual rents.

RECOMMENDATIONS.

A letter from the Clerk of the Waitaki Bond Board was read, suggesting the course to be pursued by the Board in dealing with certain sections in the district. The letter was "noted."

PROTECTION.

The Board granted Mr James Morrison protection over a quarter of-a-mile of road at Lake Wakatip, and which he had made at his own expense.

RESIDENCE AREA— HAVELOCK.

It was resolved that the residence area of Mr Christopher Ward, Havelock, be sold by auction at L 5 per section, valuation for improvements to be added. APmcATIOSS TO PCBCHASE AT £1 PER ACRE. The applications of Messrs G. Balston, Thomas Scott, and William Trimble, were refused. That of Mr Hall was approved. Mr H. H. Kitchener's application was referred for advice to the District Land Officer, and a decision on Mr Muir's was postponed.

SECTION* IS AKATORE DISTRICT. An application to purchase part of section 20, block 11., Akatore district, at LI per acre, was referred to the Koad Engineer for his advice*

The application of Mr James Leslie to purchase section in Waitahuna East, held under agricultural lease, was approved, subject to roadway being reserved through the land. CAN A MINOB HOLD A LEASE UNDEB THE ACT ? In the matter of an application for an exchange of an a agricultural lease to one Thomas Downie, a minor, the Board resolved— " Thos. Dowme, being a minor, cannot hold a lease under the Act Any authorisation of the Board formerly was done in ignorance of the fact of Thomas Downie being under age."

PEBMISSIOJT TO BAKE COAL. Messrs Smith and Anderson, on behalf of the New- Zealand and Australian Land Company, applied for permission for their Manager to raise coal or lignite on run 23. Kurow.— The Board had no objection if the fuel raised were station purposes only.
