MR A. M'LEOD'S SCHOOL.
The third annual examination of Mr A. M'Leod's school took place on Wednesday, the 23rd u!t., in the North Dunedin Drill Shed. The examination was br gun in the morning by Mes«rs Halliwell and Chapman, of the Middle District Sc 001, and continued during the day by Dr Copland, Mr James Wilson, and Mr D. White, of the North Dunedin District S.'hool. The following list contains the names of those who, by diligence and abil ty, distinguished themselves during the year :—: — JIIbTOUY. To Grace Wheeler was awarded (the only one given ill the school) a prize for reciting Gray's " Elegy."" HPKCIAIi EXC'KtiLKXCB. Henry Fleet, writing ; Alfred Mullier, arithmetic. Honourable Mention. — William Mitchell, James Nightingale, Annie Storer. The examiners complimented Mr M'Leod in glowing terms on account of the efficiency of his pupils, and congratulated the children on the care taken in their instruction. The work, they said, was thoroughly done. SEWING- DEPARTMENT. This department, which is conducted by Mrs Finlayson, was examined by Mrs Copland, Mrs Wilson, and Mrs Gibb. The articles exhibited as specimens of the work done during the year, showed that the girls had made great progress in sewing, knitting, &c. The following list indicates those worthy of distinction ; — Catherine Mitchell, 1 ; Annie Mitchell, 2 j Emma Tyrel, 3 ; Mary Hunter, 4 ; Maggie Ellis, 5 j Emily Mitchell, 6 j Grace Wheeler, 7. All present expressed themselves highly pleased, not only with the marked progress which the girla had made under Mrs Finlayson, but also with the good sense which she displayed in practising her pupils in articles of wearing apparel.
