WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on Wednesday. Present : the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. T. Thomson), in the chair ; and Messrs Butterworth, Clark, Reid, and Strode. SAWMILL LEASES. Messrs Connell and Moodie, on behalf of Mr John M'Farlane, Mr John Paterson, Messrs Herbert, Howut, and Co., and Mr John Perry, submitted plans of applications for saw-iniil leases in Glenkenich district for approval of the Board. The leases were approved of. As regards tho tramway of Messrs Herbert, Howat, and Co., laid flown through the ground applied for by Mr Paterson, a condition to b« added that tree 3 felled by Mr Patersou'a men should be cleared off the tramway, aud damages repaired by him ; if by storm, or wind, or in any other way, Messrs Herbert, Howat, and Co., to do so. APPLICATION TO PURCHASE SITE FOU CHURCH. Mr C. F. Bbvck, on behalf of the English Church Committee, applied to purchase section 10, block VII , Balelutha, to erect a ehuroh upon. The Board had no power to sell the land, unless at the ususl quarterly auction sales. SKIPPER'S CREEK— OIIJKCTIOX TO SALE OJ 1 LAND. Mr John Edgar, hon. secretary to the , Upjjer Shotover Miners' Association, wrote objecting to the sale of s ctions 2 and 0, block XI., Skipper's Creek district. '■ The letter was referred tc the District Land Officer. MR LOGAN'S APPLICATION : OPINION OF ATTORNEY-GENERAL. The Attorney-General forwarded his opinion on the easo submitted to him as to the claim of Mr James Logan to be declared the purchaser of certain waste lands in block 111., Greenvale District. The opinion was to the effect that Mr Logan's claim was not good. APPLICATIONS FOR LAND ON GOLIXFIELDS. The following applications to purchase lands on goldfields were submitted for approval : Ohas. Henderson, section 61, block IIL, TuapekaEast; Hugh M'Cann, section 47, same block and district ; A. Galbraith, section 18, block VI., Tuapeka East ; Thos. Hindle, section 45, block XIX., Tuapeka East; Jas. Pottigrew, section 4B, block IV., Tal)le Hill. Messrs Hendeison and M'Oann's applications were approved, Mr Galbraith 's wag referred to the District Land Officer, and Messrs Hendie andPetoigtew's appliuv tions were approved. LAND NORTH Off TA.IERI RIVER. Ranger Valpy reported recommending that no land on which there was any scrub or timber north of Taieri Paver should be sold, and that district surveyors be instructed to lay off really useful roads to the Bush Reserves. Tho report was referred to the Government for their consideration. APPLICATION TOR SECTIONS IN OAMARU. Mr John M'Murtrie applied for a lease of sections 4 and 6, block LV , Oamaru, offering £2 1 0s per annum for each. The ai^plication was refused. VILLAGE RESERVE — GREENVALE. Mr W. H. S. Roberts, for Mr Thomas Mnycu, applied for a license under clause 161, to occupy part of the villige reserve, block 11., Grtenvale, situate between the two roads south of the pre-emptive right. It was resolved that the Government be asked to survey the reserve info quarter and 3-acre seotions, when Mr Mayou would have an opportunity of competing. MOEKAKI DISTRICT. — APPLICATION TOR SECTION. The Road Engineer reported on the application of Mr Thomas Calcutt to purchase section 43, block XL, Moeraki district, that the laud was valueless for quarry purposes. APPLICATIONS TO EXCHANGE LEASES. The applications of William Westcott, Agnes M'Phail, and D. Smith, to exchange leases under clause 62, were approved of. APPLICATION TO PURCHASE. The application of W. Scolea to purcase sections 51 and 56, block IV., and sections 87 and 88, blook V., Shotover, held by him under agricultural lease, was approved of. RECORDING AN EXPRESSION OF DISSENT. The. Chief Commissioner gave his opinion that in the application of Messrs M' Donald .and Mathesou " justice maybe miscarried by the disallowance at the last meeting of the evidence of the objector, Mr Nicolson." Mr Reid : Wo did not disallow evidence. The Cinrci? Commissioner : Yes. I asked that Mr Nicolson be called. It was not allowed. The opinion was recorded.
