CUSTOMS REVENUE.

Totals .. ,€SI3,-270 .•CDUB.bOO During 1573, therefore, the Customs revenue of the Colony increased by £152,521, or at the rate of IS "75 j>cr cent. In Otago the increase amounted to £03,323, or at the rate of 24 41 per cent.

At the close of the la&t " Volunteer year " the enrolled strength of the Force of Great Britain, inclusive of the Staff of administrative regiments, was 178.279, of whom 109,737 were returned efficient, 114,080 earning the additional grant for extra efficiency. Certificates of proficiency wero awarded to 11,552 officers and sergeants, and 136,502 of all ranks wero present at the annual official inspection. The Force comprised 703 Light Horse Volunteers, 192 Mounted Iliflemen, 23,9l4Artillerymcn, 6174 Engineers, and 135, SBS Rifleman.
