THE PATRIOT'S SONG.

)By John G. Smith, author of " The Old Pastimes of tlie Borders of Scotland," &c, &c.)

Wake, wake, wake, and wake From the troublous visioned sleep ; "Wake, mid assert thy sacrcrl right The mmd — not rank or frold — is might, And hu'hii niurd'rer in God's si^ht Who makes his brother weep. Work, work, work, and work 'fill thought ami speech arc free, Till the powers that be begin to quail, And the bigots are heard to curse nnrl rail, And the people list to the dismal taie Of oppressed humanity. Teach, teach, teach, and teach The truth— supremely grand — The truth— eternal and sublimeThat man of every limd aiul clime, Of every hue and every time, is one great brother band. Write, write, write, and write Till the weary eye is dim, Of the lowly good, and the noble vile ; Of the starveling poor who daily toil For a crust of bread nil the rich man's soil, "Which erst belonged to him. Sow, feow, sow, and sow Seed for each changing age, From which will rise a noble tiee, Whose bomrhs will liil the land and sea, Whose fruits are love and liberty — Man's deathless heritage. Strive, stiive, htrive, and strive Till tyrants cease to lie ; Till Emperor, Sultan, King-, and Czar Shall leave their muH'rou& trade of war, And love shall be the guiding star Of new-born liberty. Fight, fiiiht, fight, ana richt Till the foe is stricken down ; Till hell born vice blin.ll lice away, And darkness brighten into day, And virtue wield her sceptred sway, Aud wear her golden crown.
