It is to be attributed in part to the weak fielding, and to the smallness of the ground, on which it is impossible to extend the field beyond the most circumscribed limits. The batsmen could all hit over the heads of the most distant fieldsman with ease. There were between 5000 and 6000 people present during the afternoon. The day was one of the hottest of the season." The Age calls Mr W. G. Grace's innings " a very splendid display of cricket, and an exhibition of batting power the like of which has never before been seeu in the Colony."
The first portion of the Surat's cargo and passengers' luggage that has reached Dunedin came by the Wallabi on Saturday, and was promptly discharged. The cases and boxes were not broken, but appeared to be thoroughly saturated, though we hear that some cases of tea escaped the salt water. The saloon side-board, the harmonium, and another musical instrument, together with other perishable articles, were landed com* paratively uninjured. It was pitiful to see some of the passengers by the vessel recognise their own boxes, as they came up from the hold of. the Wallabi.
