The Sunderland Co-operative Store took £31,000 over its counters last half year, and has paid a dividend of Is] Odin the pound on members' purchases. A proportion of the profits is devoted to the members' free library of 3000 volumes.

The late season of pearl fishing in the river Earn, has not been so good as in former ones. Below Kinkell, which is 'he princijnil portion of the river for pearl fishiug, tic mussels were very few in number and of little value. Pearls were also scarce and of inferior value, none bringing more than £1 each,
