WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Waste Land Board was held ou the 14th inst. The Chief Commissioner was in the chair,' and' there were present Messrs Reid, Duncan, and Hughes. The minutes of the. previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Mr F. 'M. Falconer's application to lease section 41, Block 111, Waihemo district, was declined. Mr Warden Robinson's report on Thomas Turnbull's application for 10 acres on the Ida Bum Creek for coal mining purposes was read. The report stated that there was no danger of monopoly in granting the license, inasmuch as having inspected the ground, accompanied by those signing the memorial to oppose the application, he found the coal not only on the land applied for, but also on both sides of it. The report recommended that Mr Turnbull should have 10 acres granted, or if the Board decided on granting only 5 acres, that he should have his choice. The application for 10 acres was granted as recommended by the Warden.

A letter from John Burns asking that the consideration of his application for section 28, Block I, Wyndhaaa distriot, might be postponed in consequence of the Bection not having, been properly surveyed. The Board declined to consider the letter, and passed the survey. David Weaver applied to be allowed to purchase section 2, Block IV", Queenstown. Postponed. Application from Mr Cope for sections 13 and 14^ and 5 and 6, Block IV, Arrowtown, as a reserve for a school, was referred to the Government, the sections for sale on the 16th instant being temporarily withdrawn.
