Mr Wilkinson seconded the adoption of the report.

Mr Docs explained that the Committee were of opinion that in future instead o, large works being executed by day la' 1 our as had hitherto been the case, they should be let by tender separately — (Mr Fish : Hear, hear). There should be four separate tenders for each ward, so that greater facilities for tendering might be given. Of course the works would be carried out under the superintendence of Mr Barnes, as had previously been the case.

GREAT KING STREET.

A letter was read from Mr "W. TT. Cutten, who stated that on the previous day he was summoned for allowing a nuisance to exist on his premises in Great King street. The hearing of the case was adjourned for a week} and he (Mr r utten) attended with th^e, Corporation Inspector to vle.v the property. He found that the nuisance was caused by a drain baing allowed to cross the street and fall on his property, from which the water could not escape because of a drain made by the Corporation at the lower end of the section having been allowed to silt up. It was therefore impossible for him to drain his land unless the main drain (vns kept open. If tho Corporation would enable him to do so, he would have the nuisance abated, and he had already instruotod his agents, Messrs Gillies and Street, to take tho necessary stops as soon as possible.

The letter was rofcrrod to tho Works Committee.
