Mr Dillon Bell has joined the Government, without office. Mr Gisborne, Under-Seoretary, goes into, the .Upper House to-day, as the representative of the Government. He will resign > the Under- Secretaryship. Mr Gisborne is to be Colonial Secretary, Mr Fox remaining Premier, without a portfolio. The Money Bills passed the Lower House to-day, and the Counoil is Bitting tonight in- order to pass them.

Mr Driver has served a notice of action on the Evening Post for publishing a telegram from Dunedin, saying that a leader in the Echo states that his lettar to Mr Treweek discloses political jobbery ei^ual to that of Mr C. E. Jones in Victoria. The Post cf this evening publishes the letter, and calls on Mr Driver to explain it. , „ July 4th. In the Legislative Council today the Han Mr Gray moved a resolution affirming the desirability of adhering to the self-reliant polioy. The Hon Mr Gisborne and Colonel Whitmore opposed the resolution, and the debato was adjourned until after the call of the Council, which takes place to day, 18 members being reported absent. Wharematarangi, a chief of the Pukakoho hapu, has come into Patea and given himself up together with 41 of his followers. 19 of these are able-bodied men, the rest being old men and women.
