GENERAL ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of the General Road Board took place on the Ist inst. , at 11 o'clock, in the office of the Secretary of Lands and Works. Present— Captain Fraser, Deputy Superintendent, and Messrs Duncan and Reid.

Ahuriri. — An application for the formation of a new road district at Ahuriri was sanctioned.

Pine Hill. — A letter was read from the local board, as was a petition from the settlers at Pine Hill, respecting the closing of M'Fadyen's track, but the board decided not to interfere.

Broad Bay,— The complaint of certain settlew, that the rates had not been properly expended, was considered, and it was decided that, on issuing the next precept, a cortain portion of the rates Bhould be spent in the district. Sydnej.— An application for the closing of a road through sees. 1, 2, 9, and 10, block V., Otepopo, was sanctioned. Goodwood. — Mr Harris supported an application from Mr J. R. Jones and a number of settlers in the district to close the road through Mr Jones's property. It was decided to refer the matter to the District Road Board for information.

Walton.— Mr Doughty supported Mr Fagan'a objection to the new road lino, that it cut up his land without any advantago to the public. The matter was referred to the Local Board for a report.

Tho Board recommonded that L2O should bo paid to Mr Law, as compensation for tho Main South Road passing through his proporty. Sandy Mount— Mr Doughty appoarod for MrT. Gunn, to requoat the Board to order L 5 to bo expended in getting access to his proporty. Tho District Board was recommended to award tho amount.

Waropa.—Mr Sandilandß'a lottor, rospocting tho road through his proporty, was road, and it was agreed that tho dosion of former Boards should bo confirmed.

Anderson's Bay and Otanomomo.— Frosh elections woro directed to be hold at those places. Waihola, Glonoro, andGlenavon.— Tho moetings at these pl*coa having lapsed, tho oloctions woro direotod to be hold on a future day. North Taieri, Chalfont, Sandymount, Green Island, Brighton, and Oavorsham. OWjoctiona by persons from these districts woro mado n^ainut tho legality of tho olections at them.

Mr Lloyd and tovoral other settlers from Green Island pointed out that, m in other dintriott, there were two parties

in the district of Green Island, one the* go-a-head improvement party, the other the stick-in-tHe-mud-db^othing party. One party went in for roads and improvements, the other forsticking in the mud ■where they were. The do-nothings tried all they could by legal and illegal means, to remain stationary. Persons had voted for them whoße names were not on the roll, and some had been elected who had no right to be members of the committee. Four or five persons had voted who had no right to do so, and the election was therefore an illegal one. Consideration of the subject, with reference to the places named, was postponed, in order ta obtain the opinion of the Provincial Solicitor.

Roslyn, Chalfont, Chelsea, Maungatua, Portobelio, ICaikorai, Te Houka, and Lambton. — The appcintmenta made by the Road Trustees of those plaoeß wore sanctioned.

Mrs M'Ewen objected to a road passing through her property at Port Molyneux, and Messrs Sandilands and Haddon to reads through their property at Warepa. The objections were reforred to the District Board.

Green Island. — An application from Greon Island, for authority to levy a road rate of Is in the £ for 1869-70, was sanctioned. The Board then adjourned.
