The " Southlond Times" says :— " We understand that Dr. Knight, Auditor- General of New Zealand, recently paid this Province a visit, in consequence of representations from the Provincial Government, on the desirability of completing with iron rails the Northern line to Winton. It is understood aleo that Mr Stafford's Govern 'nent is favorable to the construction of a light line of railway to the Mataura. This is in furtherance of the scheme for a g rand trunk line of railway •throughout the Middle Island.
