Frolic was just a-head of Panic at the Stand, and Minstrel next rushed to the front and kept the lead for a few strides, when he gave way to the champion, who still at a slashing pace forced the running. Before reaching the site of the old stand, the field were " spreadeagled" to an astonishing extent. Between this point and the abattoirs, Oriflamme, Minstrel, Songster, and the Poet, who had all been running well, retired, and Toryboy joined the leader, racing down everything that stood between them. Half a mile from home the race was left to the highest and lowest weighted of the old horses ; the champion made a gallant effort, answering in the gamest manner to every call of Morrison, not compounding under the lOst., but fairly beaten by the determined racing of the .feather-weight making the most of bife|

enormous allowances, "the grey won by two lengths, and Riverina was third, three lengths behind Panic. Angler, Cad'and, Musidora, Jule- cum- Sneezer, and Rose of Denmark finished in about fourth, fifth sixth, seventh, and eighth. Angler ran on the wrong side of a post, and Cad land of this lot alone was weighed. Time, 3min. 44sec.
