Prospectus. l prospectus. 8 "ota&o ma.i l." < ON SATURDAY, the 2nd July, will be i published the first number of the ''Otago < Mail," a new Morning Paper. j In the face of the acknowledged necessity that I exists for an additional Daily Paper, the Pro- ] priefors of the "Otago Mail" have determined s on issuing a Journal which shall, while giving all the news of the day, afford the requisite • facilities to Advertisers. It is intended that the • " Otago Mail" shall at once vindicate its claim to consideration by the adoption of a size and | tone suited in all respects to the requirements of the day. ' Regarded from every point of view, Social, Commercial and Political, few will deny that it is neither wiso nor right tbat one Journal should be in fate possession of the public ear. A monopoly of this kind is not only odious in character, but tends to deprive the public of that free nnd healthy discussion on questions of general interest, without which sound and just opinions cannot be formed. Hence another Journal has become an acknowledged want, and tbe frequency with which this want is asserted, has encouraged the Proprietors in thepioaecutionof their present enterprise. They trust that they have rightly interpreted public opinion, and will m.-et with a fair and nee-iful share of support. If so, it will be their earnest and constant endeavor to merit the public fnvor by making the " Otago Mail" a free, outspoken, and impartial critic of affairs, as well as a first class newspaper. Arrangements have been entered into for supplying the "Mail" with the latest news, and with the most complete and trustworthy Commercial information. In politics the ''Mail 1 ' will be without party— ever ready to expos" abases, and equally ready to aid to the best of its ability all who honestly devote themselves to the public service, so long as they use well, wisely, and in a liberal spirit, tho powers with which they are entrusted. It will be the ambition of the Proprietors to make the " Mail" noi only a thoroughly efficient newspaper, but a recognised organ of public opinion. To ensure tbe former, neither trouble nor expense will be spared. To attain tbe latter, th y will strive by honesty of purpose and the encouragement of full and fair discussion, to gain that confidence without which no Journal can hope to acquire icflaence, or be enabled to fulfil the higher part of its public purpose or duties. They have not lightly or without due forethought entered on their present undertaking. They are fully aware of the difficulty of tbe task they have in hand, and of the cost and labor required to bring it to a successful issue. But they rely cheerfully on the many assurances of support they have received, and on their own determination to make the " Mail " welcome everywhere as a Newspaper, and worthy in all other respects of public, confidence and favor. Subscriptions and Advertisements will be' received at the " Mail" Office, Stafford street, anil at the Publishing Office, in Princes street. Terms— l2s par quarter, or 10s 6d if paid in advance, single copies, 3J. The subscriptions includes delivery, to ensure which, with regularity and at an early hour, ample arrangements have been made. In connection with the '• Daily Mail." a Weekly Paper will shortly be published for the convenience of Country Subscribers. Printed for the Proprietors, F. J. MOSS and Co, by Mills, Dick, and Co, Staflord street, Dunedin.
