TUAPEKA.

(from a correspondent.)

We received the following communication fi om Tuapeka last week, but it was accidentally omitted from publication : —

V\'e had a very strong gale of wind last week ; but lam happy to inform you that not so much damage has been done as was at first anticipated. The township of Lawrence suffered very little ; the only two sufferers were the proprietors of the Camp Hotel and the Commercial Hotel, both parties having the roofs of their stables blown off. In Wetherstone's, the Golden Age and Sportsman's Arm?, and^Mr Myers's store were injured ; the first suffered the worst, as it was completely stripped. The miners suffered very much, owing to the frailty of their dwellings, and had to take shelter in some of the Hotels that had resisted the weather. Business continues dull ; but I think by the number of diggers returning from the river, there is every probability ot it soon reviving, as the last great rise of the Molyneux has sent hundreds away. I may mention, that in one store the water rose up to the ridge pole— the same being built close to the water's edge. The new rush at the Beaumont seems to be turning out very well. A new gully has been opened this week. There is very little doubt but the country round about the Beaumont will be well tried this winter, as a great number of miners are talking about trying their luck at prospecting. The number of persons reported to be on the rush is two hundred.

P.S. — I beg to apologise for a mistake made by me, which refers to there being no places of Worship. I beg leave to say the Roman Catholics have a place of Worship here.
