THE ESCORT.
The Escort from the Dunstan arrived ia town about 6 o'clock on Tuesday evening, in charge of Sergeant Perry. It brought 4082 oz. 10 dwt. Thore was a wait of two or three hours at Saddle Hill for the Lake Escort, but nothing was seeu of it ; and in all probability it has been detained by tho swelling of the Waipalii or some other stream in the same neighborhood. The Dunstan Escort left Maopherson's Station, at Ida Burn, 20 mites this side of the township, early on Saturday morning. Soon afterwards snow began to fall, and there was no cessation, during the ride to the Upper Taieri, which was reached late at night. Two additional horses had to be obtained, to make it possible to get the waggon up the hill when the journey was resumed ; and beweenthat hill and Manngatua, 2ft. of snow was often passed through.
