May 28th. Queen's Birthday was observed a<* a general holiday throughout the color.y. Melbourne Was illuminated at night. Unfavorable weather greatly marred the festivities.
The detachment of the 40th regiment here will leave for New Zealand shortly, should unfavorable news be again received. A new journal to be called the Riverine fferald will shortly be published at Echuca

Madras sailed on twenty-sixth, with 48,572 ounces of gold and 63,162 sovereigns. Mr Keefer, formerly member for the Ovens district, has died under melaricbq]y cjreumgtances.
L. L. Smith and M'Olure are contesting South Bourke election.
Bear and O'Brien are in the field for South yrpvinpe, Arrived : Aldlnga, on 20 th. Edina will sail for Inyercargill direct on Saturday, thirtieth.
