"MASON AND SLIDELL TO BE RELEASED".
Quincy, Dec. 30. "Official communications passed between Lord Lyons and Secretary Sewardon the 27th. The Latter says Captain Wilkes acted on his j own authority, ,and committed an error for which our Government is willing to make reparation. Mr. Seward concludes by sayin"that Mason and Slidell shall be given up, in order that the principles for which the American Government has always contended may be maintained, and he hopes England will adhere to the same policy hereafter.
