Appointed to enquire into- the present state of the Trust for Religious and Educa- ■ tional uses,, the -that haye been Expended on- Religion and Education respectively, the Proportion to which each] is entitled, and to suggest a plan by which' the share due to Education may be directly applied^to its advancement., \ Your Committee havSto report, .as regards the present state of the Trust, that the Trustees hold the following Properties, namely :-r~ Twenty two complete Properties under the original scheme, and, An addition^ have purchased under instruction of the Presbytery, ' Forty acres "for Clutha Glebe., Fifty acres for Tokomairiro do. Forty acres for Waihola do. Forty-seven acres for West Taieri do. ' ' And Three Town sections in Dunedin. That the present Rental of the Properties slightly exceeds £530 per annum! The Factor has on hand a balance of £30, and estimates the arrears of rentals. due at about £580, .which sum, however, includes the rental* due only in May last. Against these .assets mu3t be placed a debt of £1000 due by the Trust. 1 As regards the 'Expenditure on. Religious and Educational uses respectively, your, Cojnf mi t tee regret that they ; have not been 1 able' to obtain such full ' information as they .desire,. Trust given, except "that not more than £300 was to be appropriated to each Church Benefice." *■ s.'^ "that the Presbytery consider that under tile altered circumstances of the Colony, some definite rule should be adopted and laid down by the Presbytery for the guidance of the Trustees as to the proportion which should be appropriated to Religious .and Educational purposes respectively. 6, *• That with this view, and with the viewalso of a fair and equitable adjustment of the whole questions connected with this Trust at the next meeting of Presbytery, the Committee "be re-appbinted, with instructions to use every effort to obtain all possible information with regard to every point connected with the Trust, and the application of the Funds up to this date, arranged under such different heads as will give a full and fair view of the whole state of the Trust, with the understanding that it would be desirable that in their report they should state the view they may have arrived at as to what they would recommend for the adoption of the Presbytery as a full and snal settlement of this matter. 7.
