The Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps for convening a meeting of the ratepayers of the newly proclaimed road district of Kaitangata, for the purpose of electing road trustees.

A report of the committee appointed to hear objections to the Tokomairiro rond rate was read. Mr. Kenyon having appeared on behalf of Mr. Adam and others, named in the protest referred to in the report, the protest was read, objecting to the legality of the rate, when after full consideration, it was moved by the Pro? vincial Solicitor, seconded hy Mr. J. L. Gillies, and resolved — " That the protest objecting to the Tokomairiro District Koad rate be not sustained."

The other objections having been disposed of, the clerk was instructed to issue the requisite precept for the collection of the rate.

A resolution of the Wakari District Road Board was read, proposing a rate of 6d. per acre to be levied over the whole of the district, which was approved of, and Messrs. Shanks, Bower, Craig, and Green appointed to hear objections to the rate.

In accordance with notice given of the intention to propose at a future meeting of the Board, that certain road lines in the Tokomairiro Koad District be closed and others opened, as more particularly stated in the advertisements which appeared in the Gazette and newspapers, Mr. J. L. Gillies now moved that said lines be closed and others opened up accordingly, which was agreed to.

An extract from the minutes of the Anderson's Bay Koad Board was read, recommending that certain portions of road line in that district recently closed in accordance with resolutions of this Board be now disposed of to the adjoining proprietors, as proposed in the resolutions embodied in said extract. On the motion of Mr. Bower this was agreed to.

A memorial from Mr. Peterson, claiming further compensation for a right of way through his land at Anderson's Bay, having been read, it was resolved to remit the matter to the Government, respectfully requesting them to deal with it.

In answer to a letter from Mr David Bower requesting a license to cut timber on the line of road from Anderson's Bay to Portobello, the clerk was instructed to inform him that his application must be made to the Government.

Mr. James Adam having appeared before the Board and requested permission to lay on the table the memorial with reference to a proposed re-subdivision of the Tokomairiro Road District, which memorial had been before the Board at its previous meeting, but consideration thereof deferred until the new Koad Bill had been considered, which it was' then anticipated would have been done at the meeting of the Provincial Council in December last, it was resolved, after considerable discussion, again to take up the matter, when Mr. J. L. Gillies, on behalf of the Tokomairiro District Hoad Board, strongly objected to the proposed redi vision of the district.

It waa moved by Mr. Turnbull, seconded by Mr. Bower, and agreed to —

" That his Honor the Superintendent be recommended to proclaim the division of the Tokomairiro District into two districts, East and West Fokomairiro, according to the boundaries contained in the schedule to the New Road's Bill."

Whereupon Mr. Cutten gave notice, that at the next Meeting of the Board he would move —

" That the whole resolutions of the Board, inconsistent with the resolution recommending the division of the Tokomairiro, be rescinded." Mr. J L. Gillies gave notice that at next meeting of the Board, he would move —

" That the resolution to divide the Tokomairiro District into two Hoad Districts, be rescinded." Adjourned, sine die.
