Excursion. — .V rather numerous party assembled on Tuesday morning, for the purpose of accompanying the children belonging to the 'North- East Valley Sabbath School to Port Cbajmers and back, on board the "New Era." The juveniles were in high glee, and the trip down was enlivened by the singing of hymns by the children, under the leadership of Messrs. Simpson and Stewart. On landing at the Port, cricket and other games were engaged in by the party in Mr. Thompson's paddock. Some disappointment was expressed at the absence of the Rev. Mr. Johnstone (to whom it was intended the eldest boy should present an address), and also that the teacher at Port Chalmers did not join the party with 1113 school. We should be glad to see the example set by the Valley followed in all our Sabbath schools. An annual treat of this kind, besides being a healthful recreation, tends to increase the attachment of the children to the school and to their teachers, and to inspire both teachers and taught with fresh energy in the prosecution of the happy as well as important work in which they are cngag^l.
