How to Manage an Obstinate Wife. — A bold Tweed fisherman having for some time past entertained a strong penchant to emigrate to the antipodes, with the view of bettering hi 9 condition, vainly tried to persuade his " better half" to accompany him to the land of promise —but all to no purpose. She would not yield — threats, entreaties, and tears were wasted in endeavouring to impress upon her the expediency of the step, but no — "She wadna leave her am land to be an Indian Queen." However, little was saiil about the matter of late, and the "gray mare" began to imagine herself the " better horse," until one morning lately, when the man in boots was missing. His wife was informed of the fact. At first she could not believe it ; but the stern reality of the case flashed upon her mind when she discovered that sundry articles of clothing had been abstracted from her husband's chest ; and it subsequently turned out that the fugitive husband had sailed from London for Otago in New Zealand. The widow pro tern took the affair very coolly, her only remark being, " Well, I suppose I will have to follow him." — Berwick Advertiser, June 26.
