MELBOURNE MARKETS.
The Mills. — Numerous country orders have fully supplied the Millers with business during the week, arid an improved demand is still looked for. Prices rule as follows, viz. ; — Fine flour, £23 per ton ; seconds, £21 ; Chilian, £21 ; Gallego, £26 10s. per ton ; bran, 2s. 6d. to 3s. per bushel; wheat, 9s. 9d. to 10s. per bushel. There has been for several weeks an increasing lack of confidence between buyers and sellers. Kence, transactions in the regular way of business have been very limited. Retailers have supplied themselves largely through the auction marts, which ha\e been thronged with goods, in many places forced into sale by pressure for cash, and also with excessive parcels of damaged goods, particularly candles, butter, and liquors. These sales have very largely interfered with the trade of the importer, and have operated with other things to depreciate prices, until the present universal, though we hope but temporary depression has been the result.
