OTAGO SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.
A Special General Meeting of this body was held at the Odd-Fellows' Hall on Monday evening, Mr. James Macandrew in the Chair. The following Report was submitted by the Committee :—: —
" The Otago Settlers' Association, representing as it does the sentiments and feelings of the great bulk of the settlers, and the recent communication from His Excellency Sir George Grey being based upon the assumption that the Association consists of a few individuals merely, the Committee recommend that immediate steps be taken to enrol the whole of the settlers as members j and as an inducement to those residing in the interior to join, the Committee recommend that members should be allowed to vote in their absence by proxy, it being essential, that <3n all questions of any importance, at least a fortnight's notice of their being brought forward shall be published, where practicable. The Committee finally recommend, that as soon as may be, the whole names and designations of the members be published in the ' Otago Witness.' "
It was moved by Mr. Adam, seconded by Mr. Arthur Burns — • "That the recommendation now submitted be adopted, and that the Committee be requested to make arrangements accordingly." Several new members were then announced, and the meeting separated.
