WELLINGTON.
The 'Oriental' arrived on Sunday from Sydney via Twofold Bay, with a cargo of stock, after a passage of twenty days from the latter port. Her trip seems to have been an unfortunate one, having lost the greater portion oP her sheep on the passage,,among which the catarrh broke out after she was about five days at sea.— Spectatoe, Jan. 8.
Resident Magistrate's Coubt. — On Monlast an information was laid before EkSt. Hill, Esq., Eesident Magistrate, by Captain Sharp, Boarding Officer of Customs, against Mr. J. JPeacock, master of the brig ' Torrington,' for having made an untrue report of the cargo of the ' Torrington ' at the Custom-house by which he had become liable to a penalty of £100. From the evidence of Capt. Sharp, and of Mr. Eades, Locker at the Customs, it appeared that between 7 and 8 tons of flour, a quantity of gunpowder, shot, unmanufactured tobacco, and other merchandise, were found on board, on their examination of the • Torrington,' which were not entered on the manifest of the vessel. The offence being fully proved, the defendant was fined ths sum of One Hundred Pounds. We understand that the -goods have also been seized by the customs. — Ibid, Jan 15.
