The American Medical Association Journal says doctors Robert Hingson :and Waldo Edwards, of the United States public health service hospital at ■ Staten Island, have reported a new method of providing painless and safer childbirth. Tho method was tested in 589 cases involving 556 live births with no maternal complications or deaths. The method consists of a continuous injection of a solution of metycaine into the lower tip of the spine and is called continuous caudal analgesia. The physicians said it provided the maximum comfort for the mother and the minimum risk for her and the child. They ■add that they believed continuous caudal analgesia had opened a new medical horizon.
