A large crowd was present, but the entry upon racing was delayed for an hour on account of the accident to a train taking patrons to Trentham. TRENTHAM TOTALISATOR At Trentham on Saturday the totalisator turnover was £172,781, compared with £100,136 10s on the corresponding day last year, representing an increase of £72,644 10s. The total for the meeting was £318,861, representing an increase of £140,902 over last year’s total. ACCIDENTS AT TRENTHAM A furlong out from the start of.the Maungaroa Highweight Royal Melton fell, the jockey, R. J. Hayes, being injured. An inquiry was held and adjourned until a statement could be taken from Hayes. N. Holland, rider of Tutere in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap, fell at the barrier, the horse standing on and breaking one of Holland’s legs. The committee decided that the incident was accidental. The adjourned inquiry into the fall of J. Garth on Transcript in the Trial Plate on the first day was resumed and it was decided that the occurrence was accidental.
