MOBILISE ALL RESOURCES

NO EASY TASK TO BEAT GERMANY WARNING TO PACIFISTS AND COMMUNISTS INVERCARGILL, Dec. 20. “Ninety per cent, of the people of this part of New Zealand believe in the mobilisation of all our resources of wealth and man-power and it will surely eventuate,'' declared the Mayor of Invercargill (Mr. J. R. Hanan) at a civic farowell to the Southland members of the Special Military Force tt-jught* “The men of the Special Force had not waited or held back in voluntarily offering their services to the nation,’’ said the Mayor. “They are worthy successors to the main body of Now Zealanders who left our shores 25 years ago. Their action may offer no material rewards, but they are blazing a trail which is an inspiration to us and a shining example to future generations.’’ Mr. Hanan said that the defeat of Germany would be no easy task, but, although the cost might be high, all would hopo that the peace treaty this time would be signed in Berlin. If it is signed in London they could safely assume that ono of the German prizes of victory would be the incorporation of New Zealand in the Third Reich. “Our part, therefore, must be the maximum effort to subdue the common foe,’’ he added. “Great sacrifices will have to be made by the people of New Zealand. Pacifists, Communists and others who appear to act as traitors should, and I think will, be dealt with more firmly than in the last war.’’
