MILK TRAIN DERAILED.
RAIL TRAFFIC INTERRUPTED. MISHAP NORTH OF OTAKI. Rail traffic between Wellington and Palmerston North was considerably disorganised for a period of three hours of yesterday owing to the derailment of the engine of a milk train. Consisting of a locomotive and van, the train was travelling from Wellington to Ohau and when about a mile and a-lialf north of Otaki the two front bogey wheels of the engine ran off the rails.
The accident occurred shortly aftci 7 a.m. and it was not until 10.15 o’eloeK that the line was cleared and the various trains could proceed. The Limited Express from Auckland was held up at Manakau while t>
special train was prepared in Wellington and travelled to Otaki. The 170 Limited passengers were conveyed in live railway buses and several taxis from Manakau to Otaki, where they joined the special and arrived in Wellington ut 11.50 a.m. Field's train from Palmerston Noitli to Wellington, and :■ mixed train from Paekakariki ti Palmerston North, wore delayed until the line was cleared. The Napier and New Plymouth Expresses were held up for only a few minutes. Tills afternoon triune was operating normally.
