The following letter, dated the 27th June, has been received at Government House, Auckland, from the Cook Island- Department: — '•'Bv Friday's mail from Rurolonga came advice that in response-' ta' the appeal made by Their Excellencies for gifts in kiud ot iu money for the relief of distress in New Zealand, three sacks of kumaruv, weighing 5051bs gross, have been forwarded by the s.s. 'Maungauui' us ccitributions towards the Governor-General's winter relief fund. The donors aic: Makea Nui Tinirau Ariki 1 sack, Avarua School 11 sii'-ks, Arorangi School J sack. A parcel of Rarotongan coffee, cent-lining approximately lOlbs, which was supplied by the <iirl Guides' Association, is also forwarded, and it i; asked that it be -oil and the prooeods haude I to the appeal fund."
