HEALTH HINTS FOR THE AVERAGE WOMAN.

Do.ctors have proved that we can live much longer without eating than without drinking, and they stress the importance of drinking as an aid to perfect health.

- It: is.a-splendid idea to drink half a pint of either cold or hot water last thing at night and the first thing in the morning. Another half-pint should be drunk in the middle of the morning, especially if it. is'desired to keep the figure in, subjection or improve the complexion. For this purpose a dash of lemon juice in the morning water will be effective. ~

Milk, strictly speaking, should not be regarded as a drink. Though it. contains a large percentage of water, it is really a food, and once taken it forms a junket which is really a light meal in itself. It is, therefore, best not

to use milk as a beverage, and to avoid drinking- it- with the principal meals.

China tea is a slight stimulant and very refreshing. It should be made in a warm teapot and covered with fresh-ly-boiled water. It is best when taken with a slice of lemon instead of milk.

Black .coffee is a powerful stimulant. Freshly roasted and ground and wellmade in a fireproof pot with a percolator, an occasional cup after lunch is quite good," but it is not wise to drink it at night. .Chocolate and, cocoa are more or less good, oiving to the large quantity of milk they contain. They are splendid when taken with breakfast of a light order, such as rolls, butter, jam, honey, aiid fruit. It is not wise to serve them with an.egg-and-baeon type of meal. Barley water.and toast water are considered chiefly invalid drinks. Stilt, they are good for all people, and especially the elderly or very hard workers. Barley water does not keep well, and should be drunk while fresh. It is a; most nutritious beverage and invaluable for the convalescent.
