THE LATE PINO MOSES.

TWO HEROIC DEEDS. Mr. Charles Kelson pays the following tribute to the late Pino .Moses, who was drowned recently while netting whitebait in the Ohau river:—"There was a side to the character of this unfortunate Maori ox which the public are not aware. Be was practically an oateast from his tribe and people, yet he possessed a kindly and affectionate nature. Here are two instances of his great heart. A r little child was playing on the steps at the local wharf when it 'Sipped into the river. A cry weal up from the remote side of the river that a child had fallen into the Viater, Pino emerged from somewhere in the vicinity and saw the child about balf a chain out in the stream. .Regardless- of his own life, Pino plunged in and rescued the child from a watery grave. ....

J "At the same locality on another oc->ea.-ion, a lad riding a bicycle toppled over into the river which we* in a flooded condition. Again Pino emerged from somewhere in the vicinity, palled over a rope, mooring the punts and rescued the lad. But for Piao's"prompt and timely aid there is no doub"t that the lad would have drowned.

"Such acts should not be forgotten and I suggest that a suitably- inscribed tablet should be procured *by public subscription and erected over Mb grave. Bet honour be given where honour is.
