PLANE IN TROUBLE. BUT NO MACHINE IS REPORTED MISSING. Gisbome, Last Night. An unidentified 'plane was reported to have been seen by one resident passing over Tolaga Bay at 1.30 p.m. today. The observer reported that the machine appeared in distress and "to wobble a great deal." The engine was also racing and then appearing to stop. There was heavy rain and a thick. fog at the time. A thorough search over five miles of countryside from the point where the 'plane was reported revealed nothing. A machine was not reported from any other township on the presumed ■ionic which lay southwards. ANOTHER CAR STOLEN. .'■:'-'REMOVED PROM BROADWAY ' PARKING AREA. •• , Palmerston North, This Day. Another impudent car theft occurred .last .evening .when a large Sweater sedan Graham-Paige was taken from the parking place in Broadway between the Times office and the De Soto garage. • Mr. R. P. Abraham had .parked the car in the spot indicated while visiting the Regent Theatre. Thinking that no one would dare to interfere with it in such a busy spot he did not trouble to lock it. When the pictures were over, however, the ear had disappeared, and up till midnight no trace of it had been discovered. The police have the matter in hand. ELECTRIC IRON CAUSES PIRE. Masterton,, Last Night. An electric iron which was left switehed-on was the cause of a fire tonight in the .shop of Mr. G. Melvor, draper, Queen Street, Masterton. The lire was discovered' by the next door tenant, Mr. W". CI. Perry, gramophone The brigade quickly had the outbreak suppressed but not before considerable damage was done to Mr. Melvor 's new stock, which had arrived only that day. .Some of the stock in the shop suffered through smoke, and water, that of Mr. Perry also suffering ■slightly in that manner. The insurances were not available. The -building, a one-storey wooden structure, was owned by Mrs. Mary Rue.
