COUNTY RATES.

INCREASES IN TOKOMARU AND WIROKINO. LOWER RETURNS TO BE OBTAINED FROM SOUTHERN ‘RIDINGS. GENERAL ESTIMATES PASSED. The general estimates for the HorowhenuH County, which were postponed when the public works estimates were agreed to in June —the reason being that the re-valuation of the County had not been completed—were passed at a special meeting of the Council on Wednesday and the rates for the year ending March 31st, 1931, were struck. These show increases in the gross amounts as compared with last year in the eases of the Tokomaru and Wirokino ridings, and decreases in the eases of the Otaki and To Iloro ridings. The nominal rate remains the same in Tokomaru; in Wirokino it is increased bv id; in Otaki by l-16th d, and in To Horo by l-32nd d. In the last two eases the actual product is reduced by j the lower aggregate valuations. Other rates struck were: — Hospital and Charitable Aid: 7-32 d in the £ on the capital value of all rateable property in the County.. Last year and in 1928-29 the rate was 7-32 d. and in 1927-28 it was S-45d. Separate Rates:—Horowlienua waterrace district, 27-Old; in the three previous years, 7-15 d. Hautcre water-race district, 15-32 d; in the three previous , years, l-3d. Now lutes were struck for the following three water-race districts, which have been in existence for some years, but have hitherto been financed out of riding funds: —Kuku, o-12d; Waikawa, 23-04(1; Okau-Mukunoa West, 3-32 d. The Estimates. The three sums mentioned in each case represent: (1) The estimated expenditure in 1929-30; (2) the actual expenditure in that year; and (3) the estimate for this year, 1930-31.
