BOWLERS’ BALL.

“THE EVENT OF THE SEASON.” As usual there was a large attendance at the annual ball of the Otaki Bowling and Croquet Clubs held at the Lyric on Friday evening, and only on one previous occasion has the affair been so well patronised. Visitors were present iu force from all parts of the district, while quite a number were present front Wellington and Palmerston, and oven further afield. The function was a brilliant one, noted chiefly fcor_ the beautiful dresses worn by the ladies. ' There were numbers of very line dresses, reflecting every credit oil the dressmakers’ art. The decorations, in delicate shades, were more effective than on previous occasions and the streamers, intermingled with coloured balloons, had a pleasing effect. The main hall was beautifully done, and credit for this work is largely due to Mrs. McGill and Messrs Morse and Muthie. . The stage was also nicely decorated, Mesdames Whyte and Nicolson being rsponsible, while the supper-room pleased all, the shades all blending nicely, while an abundance of choice flowers graced the tables. Mrs. Knight and assistants are deserving of kudos for their handiwork. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of Mrs. J. R. Bills, aud her assistants — Mesdames Symonds, Cook and Cookslcy —and all worked splendidly. Thanks to a floor committee, and the valuable help of Mr. Larsen, the floor was highly polished and with the excellent music of Georges’ combined orchestra, dancers had a delightful time. Messrs Fiobig, Peat'se and McGill were energetic M.’sC. Other members of the Club assisted in many ways, but the bulk of the work fell on the shoulders of the secretaries Messrs Satherluy and Witehell —who worked splendidly. The supper served was very appetising, while at the conclusion soup was served and greatly enjoyed. It was a merry and pleased gathering that dispersed for their homes in the early hours of the morning.
