"A MAN'S PAST." TO-MORROW (SATURDAY) AT 2.30 AND 8 P.M. A thrilling and forceful melodrama of a man's filial devotion to his friend with a colourful background of French Algiers and the Algerian Desert is vividly depicted in the Universal-Jewel production. "A Man's Vast." which is screening at the Lyric pictures tomorrow (Saturday) at 2.30 and S. The action starts in the French prison on the Isle of St. Noir, where a once noted physician is serving- a ten-year term for taking the law into his own hands and putting to death a patient suffering an incurable disease. The physician escapes to the mainland and is preparing to get out of the country when he finds an old friend who has gone blind. Forfeiting his own desires, he stays with the friend and help him to do his work. The story builds to a startling climax when tho physician is recognised by a prison official and once more sees the .bare prison walls facing him. How he eventually wins a complete pardon and the heart of the girl who lias stuck by him. is one of the most absorbing tales ever recorded by a camera. The picture marks the first American made starring picture of Conrad Vcidt, the noted European stage and screen star. The supporting cast includes such well known players as lan Keith, Barbara Belford, Arthur Edmund Carew, George Siogmann, Cor; liss Palmer, Charles Puffy and a host of others. A high standard of supporting pictures include a "Snookums" comedy, the British and Jnternatipnal gazettes, and Oswald, the Luck Rabbit carton, and a further episode of "The Return of the Riddle Rider." That Jack Mulhall is rapidly becoming one of the most popular light comedians on the screen is the assertion of exhibitors all over the country. Formerly seen only in dramatic roles, Mulhall.has been "featured in lighter parts by First National in his recent pictures' with great success. His latest role of this type is in "Smile, Brother, Smile," the picture which comes to the lyric Pictures next Tuesday. Dorothy Mackaill is featured with Jack Mutual! in the picture.
